Why a coach is like a dentist

dentist-office-artHow much do you like going to a dentist? On a scale of 1 to 10just  rate yourself. Write down the first thing that comes to mind. Why did you rate yourself the way you did? What is the reason behind that? Interesting to know is where else in your life is this behaviour showing.

Oddly enough, the coach is like a dentist. To illustrate why, let’s look at why people go to a dentist.

1. Avoidance – Many people pretend that the dentist doesn’t exist … and end up with teeth they could have treated taken out. Just like them – there are people who desperately need the help of a coach but for whatever reason they believe in, they deal with pain by pretending that it doesn’t exist and suffering the consequences.

2. Tolerance – Others just hate the pain and for this reason go to the dentist only when the pain is unbearable and they need to do something about it. In the mean time they put up with the slow but constant pain and / or discomforth for a long, long time.  These people usually do not look for solutions hoping that their problems will dissapear in thin mist. When the pain gets bigger than the fear of the consequences of dealing with the problem they seek the help of a coach to move out of the pit they are in and move on with thier life.

3. Prevention – Some, but not many, go to the dentist a couple of times a year to check if everything is ok. They suffer only the pain which is necessary to bring them back to the blissful state of no pain and happy teeth. And some people are just like them. They live their life, whenever they meet with a difficulty, they seek out help to deal with it and they move on with thier life.  Are they immune to bad things and pain in life? No, but they do not follow the events in their life. Instead, they decise which events to follow.

4. Creation – Still, there are others who want the perfect teeth and they work for it. They are ready to face their greatest fears and to do whatever it takes just to get that smile of a million. This kind of people are those who mostly line up for the coach’s time and energy, just like with . They know what result they want and they easily know how to enlist help for the achievement of their goals… and as a result show a smile with lots of teeth.

How to recognize the victim mentality in 10 easy steps?

how to recognize victim mentality in 10 stepsThe huge difference between being a victim and having the victim mentality is in the word habit. As children the victim archetype as developed by Carl Jung plays a protective role – we are not to talk back to elders and / or show that we are powerful because we are not. Growing up most of us realize that the care provided by others in our childhood is not to last forever and we are to take charge of our own lives. However, some adults make a different resolution. Whether victimizing situations always seem to “find them” or they look to involve themselves in such some people walk through life as professionals in the game of “I am victim and you need to help me”. How do we recognize them?

1. Mercy – always everybody else is taking advantage of them, they are at the mercy of outside forces and it is never ever their fault.

2. Envy – they are very envious of others who get what they want in life but they will tell you the opposite – everyone is envious of them

3. Power – they will address to power in every possible way. For them power is the skirts of the mother behind which they can hide because they don’t have one themselves but because the mother (or somebody else they know / organization they can rely on) has it – they claim it as theirs

4. Blame – whatever happens in life it’s because of somebody else. They never take the responsibility of their part in the drama

5. Self-pity – they feel so sorry for themselves that with their constant complaining they make sure that you feel as equally sorry

6. Helplessness – if they don’t get what they want or the situations don’t turn out their way – they are able to let the world know that life does not treat them fairly and they deserve to be compensated for that

7. Reliance – totally and willingly dependent on others – family, organizations, etc.

8. Disconnection – they can easily shut off their true feelings in order to continue playing the game

9. Action – the actions that the victim to be are in the range of – making others feel guilty so that they can continue helping you, complaining, talking behind other people’s back etc. but never a real action towards solving the problem

10. Solution – since they are not responsible for what is happening, they are dependent of all possible factors and people, the solution to their problems should come from somebody else.

What is choice?

Every single moment in which we focus our intention on forward thinking or on keeping the status quo there is a choice. We define our lives by our decisions every minute whether we make these choices consciously or subconsciously.

An example for an unconscious choice is when we are in a situation which is not completely to our taste but we do nothing about it to turn things around so that we live our life in a way in which we are satisfied with our private life and work arrangements. In a situation like this to continue staying in this living / working situation is a choice.

Refusing Business

As much as I love to coach, I hate wasting my time and yours too. With this said, I will expect sometimes to not be the right coach for you and that’s just perfect. I would love to recommend you a coach that could better suit your needs and personality. Sometimes you may not be right client for me either. In this case I will tell you this with a single statement: I don’t think coaching you will work for me. I will still assist you to find the right way to achieve the results you want but I will not take up being your coach.

Of course I trust the Universe and the Law of Attraction that in the very moment in time when you are searching for a coach and need the changes in your life to which I am able to assist you, we will find each other one way or another – not any day sooner and not any day later. However, I also like to help the Universe a little.

The professionals I work with share a common calling – they want to become self-employed, be their own boss, do what they love to do for a living and to make a very good living out of it. They are ready to swim upstream if this is what it takes to be successful, and to have their business provide for themselves and their family. They envision their business growing as BIG as it needs in order for them to reap the fruits of abundance out of it and be content that all this goodness comes to them through their passion, integrity and efforts. These are the sweetest fruits in life, aren’t they.

The professionals I work with have not only a BIG picture of where they want to be in the future but they also have an idea of what they don’t want any more in their life. They don’t want to live paycheck to paycheck, less dependent on money, and more connected to others. They run away from mediocrity, futile struggles, fake life with fake happiness. They want to change their life over – to start over and open a new chapter in which to live fully. They want to do what they feel is their calling, their mission in life, they want to make a living out of it and don’t feel like doing anything else for a living any more.

They want to stop being dependent on paychecks, and money, and more connected with others.

The “I-don’t-know” mantra

i-dont-know mantra

The easiest way to recognize that you are stuck is when you hear yourself waying: “I don’t know”. And for most people this is frightening.

Fears – Usually when we are so terrified to make a mistake and take the wrong path we tell ourselves that we don’t know. The more scared we are the more we tell ourselves that we don’t know and the more we tell ourselves this the more we are re-inforcing the panic until this panic seizes completely and at the end we do really make the wrong decision. Why? Because we couldn’t see things clear. Because we were afraid. I don’t know is a dead-end street. It gives birth to more I-don’t-knows and more confusion for most people. Until it’s understood…

Feelings – In it’s essence, it takes a lot of courage to say to yourself : I don’t know. It shows quite a few things – that you are honest with yourself, that you are actually open for suggestions, to fill in this I-don’t-know with images, sensations, actions steps, plans. And, this is the real face of the fear. You are afraid more to face that you are completely honest with yourself than to face that you are at a dead end. Why? Because you don’t trust yourself and you are not confident that if you don’t know – that is very natural state. A state of mind that brings curiosity to explore, to find out, to know. And this state is called Pre-thinking state. The time and place before the thinking actually happens.

Facts – Next time, when you honestly and truly don’t know, ask yourself – What would you do if you did know? How would it feel? How would it look like? Creating your own reality is the most exciting application of the human mind. You are what you think you are, you are what your thoughts are. Thus, Cogito, egro sum. Just imagine your brain like a gigantic search engine. You type in whatever you are looking for as an answer and look for results. If there are no results – you read the message : No results found and read out loud to yourself: I don’t know the answer. Naturally. But, since YOU are theis search engine and you are also performing the searches, the next thing that happens is (of course if you don’t give up the quest at all by being too panicked by the “no results found” trap) you get into your search engine hat and you start creating new scripts, and new images, and new links in your brain, you maximize and optimize allthat and sooner of later you do the search again. You type in the same key words, the same questions. But this time – you do have “results found”.

This is how our brain operates. And as soon as we recognize that if we don’t know that’s just perfect, we become unstoppable in whatever we wish to accomplish. Because we know that the real meaning of I don’t know is – Let me start creating the “I know” NOW.
